Taped Endurance, 2000 |
Taped Endurance was first performed at a weekend long performance event dealing with the subject of endurance. I began the performance by asking for participants from the audience, who then came into a very brightly-lit space masked by tape on the floor. There was a TV monitor in one corner on which the participants were seen via a live feed video camera. Participants were taped to the floor with heavy-duty duct tape. After being taped down, participants announced their name into my microphone. I announced the time and left the space. I was absent from the stage area for periods of time, returning to announce how long the participants had been performing and to take their drink and snack requests. I also played music on a cassette player and danced a one- minute repetitious movement in the middle of participants. The performance was over when the last participant left the stage area (the performance in these photos lasted 1.5 hours). This piece was homage to the video/body artists of the early 1970's.
